Who are the Best Candidates for Facelift?

There are a number of reasons someone might want a facelift, but most patients are seeking to:

  • Lift sagging skin, muscles, and fat in the face and neck
  • Firm up a lax jaw line and jowls
  • Smooth crease lines along the nose, mouth, and chin
  • Restore a more youthful shape to the face

People with some wrinkling and sagging in the skin of their lower face and neck, but whose skin still retains some elasticity, will generally see the most improvement from a facelift. During your consultation, Dr. Baker and Dr. Yee will evaluate you and offer suggestions to achieve the best possible results. Depending on your age and other factors, they might recommend non-surgical cosmetic procedures, such as injectable fillers, either to complement the facelift or as an alternative to surgery.

What to Expect

Procedure Facelift
Description We are known at Baker Plastic Surgery for the technique and artistry of our facelifts. Dr. Yee and Dr. Baker take a modern approach to facelift surgery, which produces a remarkably younger yet natural look for their patients.
Facelift surgery involves lifting underlying tissues in the face, and re-draping the facial and neck skin. Fat may be removed or sculpted as part of the process of re-creating youthful contours.
A facelift may take several hours or longer depending on whether or not other cosmetic procedures are incorporated. The length of the surgery will also vary based on which facelift techniques are employed. Together, you and your surgeon will discuss during the consultation which method is best for you.
Recovery Your recovery from a facelift will be influenced by a number of factors. Post-operative pain will usually disappear after a day or two, and is easily managed with prescription or over-the-counter medication. Normal swelling and bruising will improve gradually. Most patients need about two weeks for the most visible signs of surgery to fade. That said, it may take several weeks for you to feel “normal,” although most patients return to social activities sometime during the second week.
