What to Expect
Male Breast Reduction
We view consultations as the beginning of a relationship with our patients, during which we can learn what motivated you to seek surgery. Gynecomastia is overdeveloped glandular breast tissue in males, but there is often an accumulation of fatty tissue as well. At Baker Plastic Surgery, reducing the size of your breasts may be accomplished by excising tissue or using liposuction to remove the localized fat deposits, or often a combination of both.
The duration of the recovery will depend on the type of procedure performed. The recovery period following liposuction alone is shorter than if excision surgery is used. Liposuction is less invasive and many patients can return to jobs that aren't physically demanding within a few days. Bruising and swelling is normal following any type of surgery. You will be instructed to wear a compression garment for a period of time after the procedure. Limits on exercise are based on the procedure and the extent of your surgery.
