Who are the Best Candidates for Breast Reduction?

Breast surgery is a highly personal decision. Some women choose Plastic Surgery to improve their self-esteem because they aren’t satisfied with their appearance, but breast reduction patients often have additional, more specific, motivations for choosing to undergo surgery. Due to their overly large breasts, these women may experience:

  • Self-consciousness and unwanted attention
  • The desire for more proportional breasts
  • Indentations and grooves from bra straps
  • Neck, back, or shoulder pain
  • Limitations on physical activity
  • Fewer choices when shopping for clothes
  • Rashes beneath their breasts
  • Asymmetrical breasts

What to Expect

Description

Dr. Tracy Baker or Dr. Jackie Yee will clearly describe the breast reduction procedure during your consultation. In some cases, liposuction can produce a good result with virtually no scarring. But often surgical excision is required.

Breast reduction surgery is performed using general anesthesia at our on-site surgery center. The surgery itself involves an incision around the areola and then vertically down the breast to the crease. An additional incision along the breast crease may be required, depending on the degree of reduction and how much the breast sags.

Excess breast tissue, fat, and skin is removed to reduce the size of each breast. The breast is then lifted and reshaped. Often, enlarged areolas are reduced to a more aesthetically pleasing size.

Procedure Breast Reduction
Recovery

You will notice the results of the surgery immediately, although bruising and swelling is normal during the first two weeks following surgery. It may be a couple of months before your breasts settle into their shape. At Baker Plastic Surgery, we will ensure your recovery is as comfortable as possible. Most patients will return to work or school within one week and resume all activities by 3 weeks.
